We weren't sure what to create for Sew A Softie's easy sewing tutorial hop but we thought it would be fun to make something small that would be easy to put in a pocket and take along for a hike. We also had some green felt and so our choice was a little cactus!
Start with:
- Green Felt
- White Felt
- Stuffing
- Light Green Embroidery Thread
- Black Embroidery Thread
- Scissors
- Needle
- Paper,
- Pins
Create it!

Step 1: Cut a pattern out of paper. We folded a piece of paper in half to make the side symmetrical. Pin the paper pattern to felt.

Step 2: Cut out two identical pieces of felt for the cactus.

Step 3: Thread a needle with light green embroidery thread.

Step 4: To the front piece of felt, begin making tiny stitches in rows. Knot and trim off the embroidery thread.

Step 5: Cut two eyes from white felt.

Step 6: Thread a needle with black embroidery thread and sew pupil onto each felt eye.

Step 7: Thread the needle with light green embroidery thread again. Begin stitching the two green felt pieces together. Leave the bottom portion open.

Step 8: Fill the cactus with stuffing and stitch closed.

This tiny cactus fits in a shirt or pants pocket or even in a pocket on a backpack - the perfect little travel companion, whether around the block or a long trip!
