Iguanas are our favorite Letter I animal. Macaroni and cheese is a favorite meal around here so we combined them with our love of recycling to create these fun puppets!

Start with:

  • Macaroni and Cheese Box
  • Colored Paper
  • Glue
  • Scissors

Create it!

Step 1: Glue the box top closed.

Step 2: Wrap the box with green paper.

Step 3: Cut three sides (leaving one long side) of an empty macaroni and cheese box.

Step 4: Cut strips from green paper and glue each end to the top of the box. Repeat.

Step 5: Cut and fold neck frills from yellow paper. Glue to box.

Step 6: Cut a crown from yellow paper and glue to top of puppet.

Step 7: Cut an eye from paper or cardstock and glue to the side of the puppet.

Step 8: Add some contrasting circles to each side for added detail.

These were really fun to make and if iguanas aren't your thing, the basic form can be used for a number of different animals!

Ice cream is always a favorite, isn't it? There are so many delicious flavors and we had a hard time picking a couple of favorites to use on this fun Ice Cream Crown, but we narrowed it down to strawberry and mint chocolate chip!

Start with:

  • Cardstock
  • Textured Cardboard
  • Paper Plates
  • Paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Yarn
  • Stapler
  • Single Hole Punch

Create it!

Step 1: Fold two sheets of cardstock in half and cut into four strips.

Step 2: Staple the cardstock together to form a band that fits around the head.

Step 3: Cut three triangles from textured cardstock.

Step 4: Cut strips from textured cardstock and glue to each triangle, trimming the edges when finished.

Step 5: Cut paper plates into rounded triangles for the ice cream.

Step 6: Decorate the ice cream by painting and adding single hole punched pieces of cardstock like we did for the mint chocolate chip or by wrapping with yarn like we did for the strawberry swirl.

Step 7: Glue the ice cream to the cone.

Step 8: Glue the ice cream cones to the cardstock band.

Step 9: Cut a cherry and stem from cardstock.

Step 10: Add the cherry on top!

Wouldn't this make a fun birthday party activity? So many possibilities for flavors and ways to decorate!

Do you still have signs of winter where you live or is it looking like Spring? Before all of the flowers are in bloom, we're squeezing in one more wintery project - an icicle crown!

Start with:

  • Cardboard
  • Paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Scissors
  • Stapler
  • Glue

Create it!

Step 1: Cut a band from cardboard and secure by stapling together or with glue. We used a hot glue gun - join in the fun by doing this or closely supervising your young maker.

Step 2: Paint the band and allow to dry.

Step 3: Cut triangles from cardboard, bend down the middle.

Step 4: Paint the triangles and allow to dry.

Step 5: Glue the triangles to the band.

An Ice Queen or Winter Princess will have so much fun using this simple crown for imaginative play!
